We have experience in survey, ecology and mitigation for numerous protected species. We hold protected species licences for smooth snake, sand lizard and great crested newt as well as mitigation license experience with otter, badger, great crested newt, smooth snake, sand lizard and water vole

Reptiles

Presence/ likely absence surveys (including smooth snake and sand lizard), population assessment, habitat assessment, translocation, Ecological Clerk of Works, hibernacula creation, habitat management and creation.

Otter

Presence/likely absence surveys, European Protected Species mitigation license application, otter holt creation, riverine and terrestrial habitat creation, enhancement and management.

Hazel Dormouse

Presence/ likely absence surveys, European Protected Species License applications, dormouse box installation, hazel coppicing, hedge laying, habitat creation and management.

Birds

Breeding bird survey, wintering bird survey, vantage-point (VP) surveys, barn owl and other Schedule 1 species surveys, impact assessment, bird box installation, species specific management plans, habitat management and creation.

Water Vole

Presence/likely absence surveys, monitoring surveys, habitat suitability assessments, impact assessments, mitigation licenses, Ecological Clerk of Works, habitat creation and management.

Badger

Habitat suitability assessments, activity surveys, sett closure, monitoring and bait-marking. Impact assessments, mitigation licenses and artificial sett creation

Bats

Emergence and re-entry surveys, activity transects, preliminary roost assessment, potential roost inspections, bat mitigation design, European Protected Species mitigation license applications, habitat management.

Great Crested Newt

Habitat Suitability Index (HSI) assessments, eDNA sampling, presence/likely absence surveys, Ecological Clerk of Works, aquatic and terrestrial habitat creation and management.

Other species

Less typically encountered protected species which we have experience in working with include beaver, pine marten, red squirrel, harvest mouse, white-clawed crayfish and Schedule 8 plant species
